However, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz continues to appeal to the population to continue to comply with the measures currently in force until that time and to be careful.
These opening steps will apply from May 19
The first opening steps are planned from May 19, the Austrian federal government announced on April 23. Gastronomy, hotels, cultural and sporting events are then to reopen simultaneously. However, under strict security concepts: The basic requirement for access will be the “green passport”. This means that one must either be vaccinated, tested or recovered in order to visit gastronomy, hotel business, cultural and sporting events. In addition, the mask requirement still applies indoors and certain group restrictions must also still be observed.
These measures will apply from May 19:
Gastronomy: gastronomy will reopen from May 19, but this does not apply to night gastronomy. A maximum number of people will apply to the venues (indoor maximum 4 people per table, outdoor maximum 10 people). The closing time is at 10 pm.
Tourism: In the hotel industry, the same conditions will apply as in the catering industry: mask obligation, distance regulations and a maximum number of persons. There are special regulations for wellness areas (20 square meters per person).Guests from abroad are welcome again as of May 19 (However, guests from high-risk areas must comply with quarantine requirements).
Culture: Events may only be held with assigned seating. The mask requirement and a maximum occupancy of 50 percent of the seating capacity indoors still apply. (Indoor maximum 1,500 people/outdoor maximum 3,000 people).
Sports: The same regulations apply to sports events as to cultural events. There is a mask requirement and a maximum number of visitors (indoor maximum 1,500 people/outdoor maximum 3,000 people). Team sports and contact sports. Indoors, the 20-square-foot rule also applies (20 square feet per player).
Schools: All students in Austria return to face-to-face classes on May 17.
Complete opening from July 1
From July 1, there will be further opening. From then on, wedding parties will also be allowed to take place again and night gastronomy, i.e. clubs and bars, will also be allowed to reopen. Club parties will also be allowed again from July 1.
